The 8-year-old unvaccinated horse from Grand Traverse County was euthanized after failing to respond to treatment and supportive care.
The confirmation of the first two cases of Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) in horses last year has highlighted the need for greater awareness of the disease in all domestic animals.
The Unwanted Horse Coalition (UHC) has added $14,400 to its Operation Gelding fund thanks to a collaborative donation.
Kathleen P. Anderson, MS, PhD, associate professor and equine extension specialist from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, was recently honored as the recipient of the 2014 Equine Science Award.
