Loved the trails and campground was nice. Bathrooms were clean... Words on signs marking trails were hard to read, but we had no problem getting where we wanted to be. Ribbons marked most trails very well. Very reasonable rates which is awesome this day and time!

Yes, we've been to Whity twice and it was terrible. Worst marked trails in the state as far as I'm concerned. Evedently you don't mind not knowing where you are on the trails. KC is far, a far better place. Trails were very pretty, folks were very nice, food was good. You should try this place again and you will toss rocks at whity's......

Evidently you have not been to Whittamores in a while ,they have several new trails with bluffs and waterfalls.Really beautiful. We were also greeted with good host that treated u well,, came to our camp site and several times to make sure our stay was good. Last time we went to KC's the trails were grown up which included briars ans limbs in your face, ruts in the trails, definately not maintained like they were a few years ago. Used to love going there but not any more.

I LOVE this place, my husband and i have camped here twice this year, first in july, it was hot as blue blazes but after we got down on the trails it was nice. Our most recent trip in October was fabulous. I think they have some of the most beautiful trails that I have ridden. If you have only ridden on flat pasture land, you might be in for a suprise but if you are used to most central/north alabama trails, you will be right at home. The camp was clean, Ken was great, came out and turned on the BAMA game for all of us in the mess hall! ROLL TIDE! met some really nice people, wish we could have stayed longer.... but we'll be back

Just returned from another great trip at KC Ranch. Trails are challenging in places and easy in others...plenty of water crossings. I absolutely love the bluffs! Food was once again, fantastic. Ken, Carol, their daughter, and their grandchildren do a great job hosting when a meal package is offered. Looking forward to my next visit!

This is our third time back and it is still as beautiful as ever. This time we went during one of the food weekends. Ken and Carol are very gracious hosts. The food is wonderful and the price can't be beat. The trails are great with a little of everything, flat, hills and streams. The campground and bathroom/showers are very clean. The stalls are plenty big enough even for my big 1200KB 16H Paint and shavings are included. The sites have water, electric and sewer. We met some really nice people that live about 20 minutes away and were staying the weekend. They were nice enough to let us tag along on a ride because we hadn't been able to find the blue trails. They showed us some great trails and we had lunch - which Carol packed for us - at the most beautiful spot. We had a great time. Thank you Ken and Carol - we hope to see you in October/November!

Just got back from my visit at the KC Ranch. As usual the experience was refreshing & leaves captured memories in my mind forever to look back on in future days. Even for people without a horse the trails are so breath taking you dont want to leave. In the past I have visited with major decisions or problems & after my stay at the ranch left with a clear mind to make better choices. The Ranch has such a friendly atmosphere from the owners to the people that go there. I love how the camp sites have plenty of room between them, the shower & eating area could not be any cleaner and the stalls are top of the line. There is so much to see that one could never be bored. The trails give horses an experience too from streams, to hills, to banks and open praries. Thanks KC for just what I needed......a little piece of heaven not too far from home.

After having driven up from Florida and excited about the opportunity to ride and camp at a 5 star horse canp, we were very disappointed. There was no managment on the premises when we arrived and the condition of the stalls were awful. The flooding was an act of God, but the uncleaned filthy stalls was an act of the inconsiderate people who camped there and the complete disregard of the camp owners. We were told that bedding was provided and all that was available was wet sawdust. I am greatful to Ken for getting us a few bags of shavings to soak up the wet stalls so our horses didn't have to stand in muck. On a positive note the bath house was clean and the site was nice and all our hookups worked, fortunately we were the only campers there and were able to get the one and only picnic table they had. The folks who own this place try hard, but they just miss the mark.

We & our horses loved KC Ranch. Ken & Carol are good people, the campground met our needs, the horses were comfortable (and visible from our campsite) in their stalls, but most importantly - the TRAILS WERE THE BEST: sandstone & sand surface, creek crossings and creek walking, awesome deep caverns/overhangs, impressive rock formations, bluffs and flourishing forest. We will DEFINITELY return to KC Ranch because it's the best trails we've experienced yet. KC RANCH rates #1 on our list. Thank you Ken & Carol for hosting such a friendly and beautiful getaway. We enjoyed every minute.

I was appalled when I read "Unhappy Camper"'s remarks because of the untruths it told. After reading this review and knowing the campground and trails as well as I do (having ridden on them for years now), this lady had to have been paid by another horse camp owner to write such a review. It was full of untruths. You can not ride all the trails in one day. That is a total untruth. There are trails for beginners and those of us that have been riding for years. I bring my riding students here to expose them to all the different kinds of terrain and obstacles a rider might face. This is a great learning experience for them and at the same time they are getting to enjoy the beautiful creation God has made. And this place is full of them. Beautiful streams, fern groves, caves, rock bluffs, etc. As far as prices are concerned, KC is one of the less expensive places I have camped. And I have trail ridden in Missouri, Virginia, Illinois, North Carolina, Tennesee, Mississsippi, Georgia, Kentucky just to name a few. So please, if you have not ridden and camped at KC Ranch, please try the place out for yourself and make your own evaluation. Don't let another camper keep you from seeing and riding the beautiful sites this Horse Camp has to offer you.

We discovered KC Ranch in 2004 while fleeing our Gulf Coast home from oncoming Hurricane Ivan. We were immediately hooked! We do most of our trail riding at the popular Coldwater Equestrian State Park in Munson, FL. As is the case with most of Florida, Coldwater doesn't provide much in the way of hills and environmental regulations preclude riding in the rivers although there is still one area where you are permitted to take a swim with your horse. Although I love Coldwater, it can't hold a candle to the variety of trails and the personal pampering you get at KC Ranch. If you are fortunate enough to come on a cooking weekend you will not get better food for the $ anywhere. Also, besides clean stalls, free shavings, clean restrooms, etc; they even provide sewer hook-ups. Who could ask for anything better than KC Ranch? At KC Ranch even "Mama" is happy.

I believe the "UNHAPPY CAMPER" from a previous post was confused or inexperienced. I have ridden here since Ken & Carol opened the camp and have had nothing but good experiences ever visit. Trails may wear or change but where do you go that they don't change? If the price has gone up a few dollars over the years, so be it, what hasn't gone up. For what KC charges it is still a bargain. The KC Ranch has always gone above & beyond to make ever visit a pleasant experience. The food they serve is excellent, the bath houses are clean, the stalls are clean with shavings and the camp sites are excellent. The trails are great and a person can find what ever type riding they desire, from riding in the streams, to sandy trails, to hill climbing. I will continue to visit KC and enjoy the riding & friendship of all who come as I have done in the past. Keep doing what you are doing Ken & Carol - making it great for us that appreciate a wonderful place to camp and ride.

Unhappy camper from recent review has no idea what they are talking about. I rode Owl Creek trails this past weekend, and yes you can camp for $5.00 but no electric hook ups ,you picket your horse. water is very limited . pit toilet. You drive 8 miles on a gravel road to get there. Difficulty for a large trailer..Not a big variety of different trails. But i guess you get what you pay for . Your $5.00 worth. I have camped many times at KC's and the trails are great. Stalls for horses are good. Food is great! Scenery is spectacular. Plenty of water for your horses year round. I think it is the best in this area. I do agree on one thing you said the website should be updated to reflect the price that it will be when you arrive.

The best part of my experience was the guest! They are so nice and write good reviews because they dont want to hurt anyones feelings! Dont look at there website for the pricing. Its incorrect. The prices went up a year ago but they dont tell you that until you make the drive and arrive to camp. I would much more prefer driving on to Bankhead national forest's Owl Creek horse camp for thirty miles of trails at just $5.00 a night. At least there's no surprises or over inflated rates.

We love the trails and campgrounds at KC Ranch. The campsites are close to your horse’s stalls. We have been camping with our horses here for 4 years. They are always growing and looking for ways to improve their facilities for horseback riders. KC continues to make new trails and when an old trail gets rutted out, they re-route the trail around it, making it safe to ride and always asking us if there are any trails that need any work. The trail are mapped, marked well, very shaded with beautiful scenery, creeks, caves, overlooks and plenty of water for your horse all year long. The campsite and bathhouse is always clean. Ken and Carol are very attentive to your needs and we will always consider this our favorite place to go camping with our horses and friends. We would highly recommend coming here anytime!!!

We recently camped at KC's , the trails were in great shape. Several washed areas have been fixed. the newest trail is very beautiful. We can't wait untill the leaves are off to see the rock bluffs there. And in the spring when the mountain laurel blooms. One thing that is great always plenty of water. Not many campgrounds near have this much water. Trails are marked really well, best markings I've seen around. Campground is great and the stalls were clean . I've been here many times and yes when it was raining but i have never seen the stalls flood. Especially since he has fixed a water run off. We plan to go back soon. Love riding there!

You could tell the trails had been worked, they were great - and the new trail was awesome. No better place in the South to go than here! We will keep coming back always. Can't wait to see you guys at Thanksgiving ! Would not spend my Thanksgiving anywhere else.

We stayed in the cabin and it was the nicest we've ever stayed in, even had Direct TV. The trails were beautiful and moderately challenging with lots of water crossings, caves and rock formations. The trails were also very well marked and we were provided with an excellent map too. We had a wonderful 5 hour ride on Saturday and still had more trails left to explore on Sunday. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. I definitely recommend and I will definitely go back.

We just returned today from KC Ranch and we have already reserved a return trip in two weeks. If you are looking for a relaxing, very quiet, laid back weekend, go see Ken. The trails are 95% shaded and very easy to ride. The facilities are very nice and everything is very clean. We carried an eleven year old for his second horse ride here, no problems at all. I would recommend KC Ranch for anyone who is looking for an enjoyable weekend.

I made my first trip alone with my dog and 2 horses. I couldn't have picked a better place to camp and ride by myself! Ken and Carol were so nice and accomodating. I went to stay 3 nights and stayed 5 nights! I didn't want to leave. I felt safe at camp and the trails were easy to follow. Although challenging in some areas, I was able to ride one horse and pony the other. The trails weren't too much for my Florida horses. I loved the creek riding and D & G Outlaw Hide-out and Horsehoe Bend. Riding through the creeks were fun for my horses and I. I'm looking forward to taking friends to KC Horse Camp. I hauled to Bankhead's Pine Torch Trailhead. I enjoyed the trails there, too. It's an easy haul from KC Horse Camp.

Nice campground for a stay or just passing through, Owners were very nice and easy going. Some of the trails were fairly steep and rocky and would not be for me if it had rained within the last 2 days. There was a little logging going on neighboring properties. Overall challenging but very pretty. About 3 days worth of riding max for me and I would highly recommend trailering over to the Bankhead National Forest about 16 miles away especially if you get rain while you are there. Ride the pine torch and owl creek trails. Extremely beautiful, easy trails with waterfalls.

Since then they have made more interesting trails so bring a camera because you'll want to share the photo's with all your friends. The things that they have added throughout the years has made it one of the best places to spend a long vacation with your horses. The trails are some of the best in the state of Alabama and with all improvements they made they have made it quite comfortable and the restaurant has some good old home cooking. The Blue trail has rock formations which bring out a lot of oows and ahhs. Bring a good camera for the overhang with the creek. Riding in the creeks for hundreds of yards was really great. They are trying breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekends which we good. If you like to travel around there isn't much to see in Double Springs but the trails are great. They have music on Saturday nights most weekends.
