Trail Description: There is a tremondous variety of trails looping up, down and around the mountains in western New York. A day's ride will take you up and down the mountains through meadows and forest. You can stay on the groomed trails, which are mostly old logging roads that are kept clear, or venture onto unimproved trails where you may have to work your way around fallen trees, etc. Most of the official trails are well marked, although you do need a map. A GPS isn't a bad idea either as the park covers about 101 square miles in total. There are easy sections but most trails have More Difficult to Challenging sections also. The area is hilly (OK mountainous) so your horse needs to be in good condition if you plan on much riding. There are many loops so there is not much back tracking. You can find loops anywhere from under three miles to over 20 miles in length. Oh yes, and keep your eyes out for black bears. We saw a couple not far off the trail.

Primitive camp with toilets. There is a spring for horse water. People water is available from a water trailer.
