FDR State Park has beautiful camping sites. You have to drive to the stables each day. Keith and Tracey were wonderful hosts, although the barn facilities are a bit dated. No turnout area. Wash rack and roundpen would be nice to have. Trails are terrific--vary from rolling hills to rocky ascents. Horses definitely need shoes or boots.

I came for a day ride only. Found the day parking campground to be very clean. Saddled up and rode over to the trail office at Roosevelt Stables. Alot of activity going on there. Met up with the hampshire potbellied pig, it was great! The stable hosts were more than accodomating! I took the Cowboy Trail up the mountain to the Outlook then crossed over and went down the mountain. The fall foliage color was just breathtaking. I love the mountains but still live in the flat lands of Georgia. This is a MUST DO always in my book. Yahoo, Pine Mountain and Roosevelt Stables you rock!!!

The new management is great. Very friendly & welcoming. The trails are fairly challenging. Your horse needs to be fit due to all the hills. It is very rocky. The majority of horses will need shoes or boots. Nice creek crossings. Very nice place to visit! Despite the bern being an older facility it is clean and in a good state of repair.

Was very impressed with the new owners of the Roosevelt Stables. They made my visit a great experience. I was a little spooked about camping in the park and having to leave my horse in the stable a mile away but they were very attentive to him. Keith and Tracy are dedicated to making the stable a family oriented fun place and it really shows. They have a wonderful day camp for the kids that really impressed me with all the activities. The trails in the park are pretty and Keith is putting in new ones and improving the existing. He has some great ideas for the future. I will certainly stop by again when I go that direction and can' wait til my Great-granddaughters are old enough to attend their day camp.

This was my first time riding at Roosevelt and this was a day ride only. There was an open field to park at the trail head which was good. The lady where we paid and showed our coggins tests was not very friendly and I didn't feel really welcome there. The stable area was a little run down, but the horses they evidently rent looked ok. The trails were rocky and I thought rather boring. But, it's close and takes us about 30 min. to pull over there, so it's an okay place. Can't compare with Hard Labor or Oconee though. Although it is better than McIntosh....now THERE is a boring ride.

Some trails were very rocky which was fine but the maps are ridiculous and hard to follow --and did not say how long trails were. We just winged it so not sure how much we actually rode --about 3 hours but covered all we could make out on the map. Didn't stay overnight, thank goodness the stables were a little scary looking and no where to park. It's a shame because it is a beautiful area but I probably won't go back --not with a horse anyway.

We had a very nice experience. I do agree the barn need some remoldeling built I felt very safe leaving my horse there, with that being said, I did not like the idea that there is no where close to camp(within 4 to 5 miles)You must park your trailer about 1/2 mile away. They are tring to get something where we can camp in the trailer parking area.I will go back. They treated us pretty good, they(SHE) did make it clear to stay out of their way which I understand thats their buisness, but to make ourselfs at home..

We arrived to board our horses at night and accidentally put our horses in the wrong stalls; we were trying to avoid a gaping, leg-hanging hole in one stall and pitiful accomidations for our horses, overall. Our horses did consume some hay that was not ours, but we mistakenly thought that was included for the outrageous stall fee. We did replace the hay. By far the worst part of the experience was the rude way that we were treated by the owners/tour guides of this place. They were possitively irate about our accident and proceeded to even call us names to some friends of ours who were registering to ride the next day. Very unprofessional considering that we had appologized profusely and replaced the hay. Overall, those two ruined our trip. They informed us that horse boarders are really not welcomed because it cuts into their rental horse bussiness, but that the state makes them offer this option. We pay $8.00 a night at Dixie Trails in AL for a safe, nice covered stall. They charge $22.00 for a run down, holed up stall in the dirt and make you feel thankful to be able to use the hose pipe for water. The maps to the trails were ridiculously marked and extremely hard to follow. If we ever return, it will be brief and we won't be checking in with those "bozos"(this is what they called us for accidentally putting our horses in the wrong stalls). It is still amazing to me that our $220.00 fee, for four horses two nights and two horses three nights to take up a spot in that filthy barn, was not appreciated enough to at least close their mouths and be friendly to six people who bent over backwards to appologize.

On a recent visit (November 2-4)to Roosevelt Stables I was never asked for my Coggins. Amazing! I spoke with some other riders there and they were not asked for Coggins either!!!

Trails were good, but rocky, still.. no problem for horses practicing natural trim. The two horses that I took did not wear shoes and got not one nick out of their hooves. Stables were our problem. We could not park near the barn. We were told that we would have to park trailers almost a mile away. This meant that we would have to carry 10 saddles, hay and feed for 10 horses back and forth. The irony of this is that when we made reservations we were told that there was plenty of parking near the barn. I asked twice about locked secure, close parking. We are in the habit of tacking up at our trailer, but could not do this here. It was suggested that we keep all tack, feed and hay in one two horse trailer which we would be allowed to keep near the barn. No way that we could get that much tack , hay and feed in one small trailer. Wouldn't have minded so much if we had been told the truth when we inquired, then we could have brought saddle racks etc and could have prepared for this inconvenience. When we complained that we were misled about the parking the folks who run the stables became openly hostile and very uncooperative. Needless to say, in spite of beautiful trails, our group will not be going back and do not recommend this stable to anyone. The park really needs to provide a parking lot nearer to the barn or change the policy to day riders and rental horses only.

Have checked this out w/out our horses. I would just love to ride here, but will not stable my horses at that stable, 4 miles away. We will just have to stick with AH Stephens, Hard Labor Creek, and Watson Mill Bridge State Parks. Such a shame, as it is in such a beautiful area.

There are different levels of trails so you can choose the degree of difficulty. We rode the lake trail which was easy and the overlook which was challenging. The people are nice and very helpful. We are planning to return. Oh, they also have guided horse tours. So, if you don't have a horse you can make reservations and ride one of theirs!
