Awesome place to ride for the day or camp. Very nice trails and great people. Campground is very comfortable and easy to park even the biggest rig. Cabins available that are cute and comfortable. Horse accommodations are great with choice of highline, paddocks, or covered stalls. The Dunn family are fabulous. Love Heart of Dixie. Many fun years riding and camping there.

Camp Rating: Once again, I had an awesome time at Heart of Dixie. The Dunns have a beautiful facility with amenities like pull through sites, easy for even the biggest rigs, great trails, some along the river. There are also creek crossings. There is a store for those items you need like feed, ice, shavings and hay, there is also a little tack and a few essential items. This is one of my favorite places to go for a nice relaxing weekend. Oh, and your horse will be nice and comfortable in paddocks or stalls. If you haven't been here yet, you definitely need to put HDTR on your ride list. Cute cabins you can rent as well.

Nice owners, clean campground and bath house, perfect for folks living nearby, but don't recommend driving lots of miles/hours to ride there. Little disappointed in New Years ride food. Same thing each morning we were there but food was good enuf. Trails are not like riding in a designated state or national park/forest. This nice facility is all home made. If you go there expecting more, then you'll go away disappointed. Again, if you're driving short distance go for it, otherwise do not recommend this as a long distance drive destination, and I would venture to say that the owners would not necessarily disagree. When I registered for the New Years ride he called themselves a friendly 'down home' place. He is absolutely right, they are that. Hope they have a great 2017, but this camper will not drive to ride there again.

My daughter lives in Troy and Boards her horse at the Heart of Dixie. Everytime I visit I am just in awe with how beautiful this place is. The trails are beautiful, the people are so helpful and treat you like family, the food and activities are yummy and fun.. There is a lake and the early morning mist with the horses enjoying the morning grass on the side of the lake is the memory that stays with me every time I have to return home

Heart of Dixie is a wonderful, beautiful place to ride your horses. The campground has so many nice ammenities such as bath facilities, a pool and accommodations for your horses. The trails range from easy to hard so you have options to choose from according to your level of riding or condition of your horse. They are also wide enough for you to chit chat with your friends while you ride as well. I LOVE riding there!!! Prices are also reasonable. We run across several deer along our ride and although we knew of other riders out that day, we spent most of our time on the trails un disturbed. we were only able to spend the day and barely touched 1/4 of the trails available, anxious to get back and ride again soon.

The pull-through camp sites are really great and the barn and paddocks a well maintained. The office/store has most items you might need camping, but forgot at home. The trails area beautiful. I would say easy to intermediate skill level. This place also have atv only weekends so check the calendar online or call before going with horses. Really enjoyed the trails and campsite. Plenty of hills and water crossings that made the ride enjoyable. The zip line across the creek was an added surprise as was the cotton fields and the fact that most of the trail was shady. Would like the Purple Trail to be marked, more stud stalls, especially for those anti-social mares, and also larger stalls in general. The outside pens should be maintained better. Did not like the hidden cost of admission fee! Every cost should be on website. Enjoyed the swimming pool, vollyball and other activities for non-horse folks. Gave everyone something to do. All in all it was a delight! If the Lord is willing I'll be going back.

Camping is great, trails are awesome and the owners are the friendliest down home people you could ask for!!! Clean bathhouse and a very refreshing pool round out this horse destination! There is also a pond to swim the horses. Truly, I can't say enough good things about how nice this place is to ride. Miles of good footing and nicely maintained trails.

Just returned home from a fabulous week of horsey camping and trail riding. We truly enjoyed the trails, campground, and helpful personnel. It was nice to have a "no worry" environment with a great trail map, safe stalls, and easy campsite. We'd ride for about three hours then come back and jump in the pool to cool off then enjoy an evening of camping. We have planned to return again soon.

Love the diversity of trails, immaculate facilities, and helpful staff. We humans and horses always look forward to our visit, a great getaway. On a rainy afternoon being able to drive a short distance into town for fine dining or a visit to The Pioneer Museum is another PLUS. We really appreciate the care taken to rework the trails after heavy rains work their magic rearranging the soil ! On other visits in the heat of the summer, there is nothing like being able to swim AND see our horses from the pool.

We really enjoyed the Heart of Dixie campground. Most sites have water and sewage, so it really makes life easy while camping. The horse stalls are good and they provide wheel barrows and forks for cleanup, you have to buy shavings. They also sell wood for campfires. The trails are nice, although some have standing water, but usually very passable. After a rain most of the trails seem to dry out pretty quickly so they are not boggy and muddy. The creek as measuring sticks at the major crossings so you have some idea how deep the water is before you try and go through. We just wish there were more trails to ride. They are installing some new trails to make the rides a little more interesting. The purple trail calls for experienced riders, you only need to be experienced if you decide to go up and down turkey mountain, otherwise the purple trail is a piece of cake. The folks who run heart of Dixie are top notch, can't say enough about them. We like Heart of Dixie very much. They even provide a pond to fish in, a swimming pool, volleyball court, horseshoes setup and gathering center, where there is TV available and other activities.

Heart of Dixie trails truly opitimize the Southern Charm. Being an avid horse and ATV rider, I appreciate the opportunity to use the facilities for multiple use. The horse trail are great flat safe trails usable for any level rider. The ATV rides are very safe, one of the only places in Alabama where you can safely bring your family for riding, I really enjoy the beauty of south Alabama with the cypress trees and wet lands indicative to this area. To top it off Troy, Alabama, home of the Troy Trojans, has a plethora of stores close by to support whatever you might need while camping. Its always a great family getaway, family run and operated. Truly a great place I personally appreciate all the Dunn family and all they do.

Campground was very clean. Love the staff. Our camping spot was well shaded and had a picnic table & fire ring. Bathhouse was clean. There were some plumbing issues, but they were working hard to get those corrected. We had breakfast at the cafe each morning. Very nice not to have to worry about making breakfast before we headed out! Really enjoyed the pool after a long, hot ride. They lost the lease on the west side trails (trying to work another one out with new owners), so those are completely closed. We unfortunately went after an ATV weekend & the trails were torn up. A lot of the trails had caution tape across them forcing us to backtrack & find another way. We often encountered huge, very deep, boggy muddle puddles. This has always been a favorite place of mine, but they either need to decide if it's an ATV park or a horse park. Another option would be to create completely separate trails for ATVs. Looks like about 2 ATV weekends a month throughout the summer. Trails were also littered with beer cans. I never saw that before either.

As usual, the campground was incredibly clean and the meeting room is very nice for ride meetings. Had a GREAT time at this facility. One of the very few to offer FULL hookups (that include sewer). Trails were great, but would like a color code on the map other than purple is for experienced riders. The one red trail we went on was ok until one of the horses stepped into the edge of a puddle and sunk up to his belly before he could get out. My mother and I have been going to Heart of Dixie for the annual February ride for 11 years now, and have not missed one yet. I have taken both experienced and green horses on the trails and had no problems. We have stayed in three different cabins(all very clean and well kept when we arrived) and also brought our camper. The camping sites are always clean and have everything you need. We enjoy keeping our horses in the barn(when it was cold and snowed) or in the open paddock. There has been a couple years that we have gone multiple times in the summer time, it was a nice change being able to see the trails in the summer vs. winter. During the February ride they feed us full breakfast, lunch, and dinner and it ALWAYS delicious! During these ride weekends they would always have a game night and a band the other for everyone to enjoy. Anytime we ever had problems with our motor home, or forgot something (hay, feed, tack, shavings, etc.) they were always eager to help in anyway they could. My mother and I have ridden all over the south east, and Heart of Dixie is by far our favorite. We look forward to the trip all year and it has become a mother/daughter tradition.

This is a great place to vacation with your friends, family and horses. Located in the counrty yet not to far from town to enjoy a night out on the town after a day of hitting the trails. This campsite offers a variety of things to do. trails, arena, fishing , vollyball, horseshoes. Fun for the whole family. The best part was the inground swimming pool. This is a must when you have kids. Kids got to swim all evening after a morning of trails. The trails are peaceful and clearly marked. Be sure and watch for the deer. Beautiful area. Mr Richard ownes the park and you couldnt ask for a more down to earth person. He was there if we needed anything. The bathhouse is large in size and was always maintained and kept clean. We are def. planning our next trip for summer 2015. We stayed in one of the many cabins. Plenty of room , clean and cozy beds.

WHAT A GREAT HORSE CAMP!!! My horse and i make this wonderfully presented and laid back kinda camping close to your horses, with ample room for them to stretch, one of our regular stops when traveling anywhere near. Its a great place in hot weather too, as the horses can be unsaddled and play in the creek, and i like the huge pool with a shade draw for half of it. Nice, very, very good people: Richard, Richie, Brooke n Marilyn... nice folks, nice place, yep.

I can not say enough about Heart of Dixie Trail Ride. The campsite was level ground, clean, shade trees, if it had rained with the draining of the site you would not be in mud. The staff and owner where the kind, helpful, made you feel like you have known them all of your life. Our slide would not go out on the trailer Richard took time to help finding a little connector that he had of his on in his barn. The stalls were so nice, big, no holes, high where water would drain. And the trails! They were GREAT! I have been riding for 40yrs, as getting older the steep, challenging horse dragging there bottoms on coming down steep hills are not how i want to ride. My husband is a excellent rider he can ride in those conditions but chooses to relax and enjoy his ride (plus not wanting to injure our horses.) The trails are just what Heart of Dixie claims :Gently sloping or level terrain; trails are groomed or wide open; shallow or no creek crossings.(Easy to More Difficult for rider but physically challenging for horse such as on a level surface through deep sand-- Any level of rider could ride these trails.. We have gone to places where I WILL NOT ride --let my husband and our friends ride - i just camp--I want to enjoy my ride--You will not be displeased going to Heart of Dixie Trail Ride. I can't say enough about it!! My husband and I are going to make at least 2 trips there at least a year!!! I give it a 5 STAR RATING !!!!!*****

The Heart of Dixie Trail Ride campground is gorgeous with several level sites, some with full hookup including sewer. There are ample shade trees, picnic tables, fire rings and picket line poles. The owner Richard Dunn is very accommodating and goes out of his way to make sure all the campers are comfortable and have everything they need. One night during our 4 night stay we were the only campers, he stopped by to check on us to let us know if we needed anything, he was leaving for the night. He told us to call & he would be here if we did. We loved it, met lots of new friends we hope to trail ride with in the future. The stalls were large which gave ample room for the horses to move around. The owner provides wheelbarrows and pitch forks for you to keep your stalls cleaned. He also will sell you shavings if needed. Trails for the most part are sandy and wide enough for two horses. There are some narrower trails which we really enjoyed. However; the Red Trail (not near camp) is rough to navigate with large ruts, hanging limbs & lots of long standing muddy water where we had to take our horses to the narrow sides to get around, because we didn't know if it was deep. This is out of the owners control. There is plenty of fresh running water for the horses to stop and take a drink. We saw foliage we are not used to in TN with lots of Cypress trees, vines and bogs. We enjoyed our overall experience and will be back! If it isn't 5 STAR RATED it should be!

Well laid out campground is easy to maneuver a large horse trailer through. Excellent stalls/barn. Loved the pool! Trails are beautiful and well maintained. They even have small "Houses" to rent if you don't want to camp. Richard and his family always go above and beyond to meet any needs. Very friendly. I will be coming more often with my family and not just for my NATRC events.

Facilities are neat and clean. The grounds are picturesque and the trails can be chosen from easy to difficult depending on your riding skills. The owners, Richard and Pam Dunn, have put a great deal of thought and planning in to this facility to assure campers and horses are comfortable and safe. My husband and I really enjoyed the wide trails and large horse stalls. We had a great time. Carol Larson and Michael deGraaf.

Once again, a most amazing time was had at Heart of Dixie Trail Ride. Richard Dunn and family offer a wonderful campground, saline pool, and a small shop for those emergency items you may need. Ice is available 24/7 and they even have a WASHER and DRYER! Something we have not encountered much on our travels. The trails have varied terrain, and if you are a beginner rider, you won't find a better place to go. Stalls are spacious, clean and safe and shavings will be delivered right to your stall door. Absolutely love this place and look forward to each visit. I'm NEVER disappointed!

We feel so very blessed to be as close as we are to The Heart of Dixie Trail Ride! We receive "just like family" service every time we attend. We love it so much that we are in the process of restoring a truck camper so that we can camp more often, since we only have a bumper pull and one tow vehicle. The trails are well kept and so peaceful. My favorite thing to do is ride up the hill, next to the pond, and look across at the pond with the little church in the background. It is so very idealic and I always get a chance to thank God for His creation when I'm on that hill. The prices are very fair and my non horsey family enjoys the camping, fishing and swimming. There's also a putting range for the golfers! Simply put: We LOVE Heart of Dixie Trail Ride in Troy, Alabama!

Plenty of great trails with varying terrain and water. The campground has full hook up which is a major plus. I would suggest combining the smaller paddocks and add more larger paddocks. There is more than enough ground area. Enforce the dog leash rule. There are always numerous dogs not on leash which is a pain when other dogs are on a leash tied up. Overall 5 stars.

My husband and I have enjoyed HDTR since our first visit in Feb. 07. We have been there every year since! We love Richard and Pam. They treat you like you are part of the family. The grounds are exceptional for any RV park you can compare them with and the horse facilities are even better! The layout of the horse stalls with the RV sites allows you to camp in site of your horses or with your horses and tacking and riding out is so convenient! The trails are the best in the southeast! None can compare. Try them out. You WILL be back, I guarantee it!

We've visited heart of Dixie many times as we go North or returning South. Richard Dunn and his family are always gracious. The campground is mowed and clean as are the stable stalls. All camping areas are level and provide electric and water. Tho we had lots of rain, the trails were manageable. During better weather the trails are just plain fun to ride, great diversity. A good "shakedown" stopover if heading for higher elevations. Internet and MIFI connections all work here. Shavings and feed are available for those needing it. You'll want shavings in the stalls if staying for a few days. We will be back this Fall.

Heart of Dixie is one of the best campgrounds. We had a great time for the 4th of July, thank you Pam & Richard for the great meal provided!!! We meet friends here from Florida quite often, making this a in-between place to meet. I've stayed in the cabins which are nice. The bath/shower house is clean and well maintained. The horse areas are great, with your choice of a lot or a covered stall. The trails are great. They are well marked and have maps in areas to show where you are. One of my all time favorite places to go camp and ride.

Plenty of posts to tie horses, shady corrals in addition to covered barn stalls. *25 minutes to a Tractor/Supply in case you forgot something or need equipment replacement. Friendly, family run business makes for a very comfortable stay. Trails are awesome and excellent for beginners too! There are still trails we haven't had time to see. Next trip! Being an "older" intermediate rider with an older horse, the trails at HDTR work well for us. Most are flat, soft dirt/sand trails. Well marked. The campground is between a four and a five. It is well maintained with amenities. Staff is always very helpful. The only negative is for family members who do not ride as they have to use their imagination to stay busy if that is what they prefer to be. The trails can be hiked, there is fishing, and in the summer a nice pool. It is normally a very quiet, relaxing, campground.

Clean campground and very well kept. Each time I come back I can see new improvements in the campground and on the trail, just keeps getting better all the time. The Dunn Family always takes the time to check on how things are going and to make sure your visit is going well. Simply, they care and appreciate your choice in coming to their facility. The trails are very well marked and have alot of areas to move out and canter or gait. Lots of shade during the hot part of the year. Finish up the day at the pool or just relaxing around the campground.
