This was our first visit to Barren Fork. The campground is beautiful, with well-placed permanent cable high lines, mowed grass, plenty of shade and gravel sites. There are water spigots for horse water where you push the button. We drive an F650 and pull a 40 ft trailer and could get in and out carefully, campsites have plenty of space. Be very sure you don't miss the drive on the right as the road will end in a very small cul de sac. The only bad thing was cars driving through camp. Ranger said he didn't know why they do that but that no reports of stolen property had ever been submitted. They create dust, noise, and some go too fast, and why are they there!!?? Trails are in the sun but easy for beginner horses. The Sheltowee Trace Trail is amazing and made the trip worth it, definitely more challenging with some steep rock climbs, lots of eye candy here! Give Barren Fork a try, we will certainly be back when it cools off!

We use to camp and ride in Barren Fork back in the late '90's. The there were more trails opened some easy and some difficult. We love to camp in Barren Fork so much that we would stay for 3-4 weeks at a time with at least 20-30 friends and family, but as we gotten older and had babies we stop camping and riding, recently our children have learned to ride and enjoy it too, so we went back to Barren Fork but was very disappointed with many of the trails closed. The camp site are still the same, no complaints. Would love for the people of Barren Fork to open all of the trails again. If they did we would definitly come back

We did a day ride, so did not stay at the campground. We rode through the campground and it looked well maintained. The trails around the horse camp are the edge of fields that have been clear cut. But riding the sheltowee trace through this area is fantastic and well worth the trip. Its a ride through old hemlocks along side a beautiful creek.

Nice primitive campground, however there were cars (non-campers) driving through camp constantly every day we were there. The loops around camp were easy and boring, through a logged forest, full sun and no enjoyable scenery. However, the Sheltowee Trace was beautiful and made up for it. There were a few sections that had more challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery.
